Dr Tan is blessed to be husband to Joan and father to Ella and Alexandra. He has been privileged to serve as a battalion commander in the SAF, the chairman of the Medifund Committee of Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and the president of HCA Hospice Care. He practises family medicine in the community. He is a founding member of a elderly befriending organisation - Shamrock Social Outreach Ltd.
